Feathermore by Lucy Swing

Feathermore by Lucy Swing is about Jade a high school student, who has an average life with her best friends, Claire and Nate. She begins hearing strange voices but keeps it a secret. After the arrival of a new gorgeous boy in her school and a sudden tragedy occurs, Jade discovers that there is a lot more to her secret than she ever knew.

Feathermore was a great read! I was hooked from the start and couldn't put my kindle down. The characters were very interesting and likeable. The main character Jade, was realistic in coming to terms with her "secret". The writing and story was refreshing. Feathermore was exciting, interesting and had me giggling a few times!  There is a cliffhanger at the end, and I have to point out that cliffhangers can be my biggest book pet peeve.  I HATE when books leave you hanging and don't really have a conclusion or not finished. In my opinion, I think authors may do that to make sure you buy their next book. A truly well written book will leave me wanting to read more from the author, not finishing a book makes turns me away and forget about the story.   However, the ending to Feathermore didn't upset me, I felt that Lucy wrote the ending as it should be.  It was a complete book for me and I can't wait to see what else is in store for Jade.

I recommend Feathermore to young adults and older.

I rate Feathermore 5 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to Lucy Swing, I was given a e-book copy in exchange for an honest review.

Torn by Ashley S. Morgan

Torn by Ashley S. Morgan is about a high school student named, Isadora Rivers. She is determined to get out of her small town and become a Hollywood actress. After a reckless bike ride she meets the mysterious new boy, Tristan Blake. As soon as Tristan comes into her world, she begins to have unusual visions of her future.

Torn is honestly hard for me to rate. It took me a while to really get into it and once I did, it really kept my interest up. The concept (I should point out that I always try to be spoiler free) can be a difficult thing to write and I like were Ashley went with it, but it felt as if there were missing parts in the story. I did feel that the story was original. Torn does point out a great message to young readers-that by just making ONE decision, you can change your life forever, good or bad!

Torn is not a book you should judge by it's cover, which in my opinion does not really go with the story!

Overall I rate Torn 4 out of 5 stars - great story!
I received a e-book copy via the author Ashley S. Morgan, in exchange for an honest review.

Q&A with author David H. Steinberg

Today I am honored to post a Q & A session with the awesome author, David H. Steinberg. Not only is he a screenplay writer, who wrote movies such as Slackers  and American Pie 2, he is now a Young Adult novel writer- Last Stop This Town

Author Bio via Amazon-

"David H. Steinberg grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, entered Yale at age 16, and earned his law degree from Duke University, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review. After four years of entertainment law in Atlanta and New York, he abandoned his legal career to attend U.S.C.'s Peter Stark Producing Program.

Steinberg broke out as a writer in 1999 with his teen comedy SLACKERS that ignited a bidding war for the script. The movie starred Devon Sawa, Jason Schwartzman, and Jamie King and became an instant cult classic.

Steinberg was immediately hired by Universal Studios to pen the sequel to the smash hit AMERICAN PIE, and as a result, that movie had the highest gross of all the films."

Last Stop This Town is available in Paperback and Kindle edition on Amazon.

My review for Last Stop This Town is here

Q&A

Do you use real-life facts based on true stories? or Do you use your OWN experiences? If so, care to share which experiences were real- life?

Usually, I just make everything up, but for “Last Stop This Town,” I chose to set it in my real home town and my real high school, so it only seemed fair to use real events from my high school days. The characters themselves share bits and pieces of traits of friends—what characters don’t—but some of the incidents are mostly true. Like, for example, the High Speed Test in chapter 1. Totally true story, even the lawnmower guy really happened, and I was the one driving. Just goes to show you how the teenage brain isn’t fully formed when it comes to judgment! I have to admit all the sexual hijinks are made up, though. I wish half of that stuff would have really happened!

When naming your characters in Last Stop This Town, do you give any thought to the actual meaning?

For the main characters, I don’t go for symbolism, but I do pick names that fit their personalities. “Dylan” just seems like a good looking guy to me. (Maybe I watched too much 90210 in my youth.) “Noah” wasn’t supposed to be a biblical reference, just a reliable best friend. I always like one of my guys to have a strange name, like Walker, and a nickname, like Pike. Oh, and every movie I’ve made has the lead character’s name start with “D.”

Supporting characters I can get a little more clever with. Like “Patience.”

What advice would you give to people who "run out of creativity" when writing?

Pay attention to everything around you. And that doesn’t mean just the Starbucks! Listen to how kids talk, be observant how people interact. And, of course, draw from your own life. But make sure to spice it up.

Who designed the cover if Last Stop This Town?

My wonderful wife is a letterpress printer (monkeybusinesspress.com), graphic designer, and independent film producer. She literally printed out a map of Connecticut, put a toy Scion on it, and snapped away. Of course, the final product was three days of Photoshop later, but I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on it.

Will there be a sequel to Last Stop This Town?

I don’t think so. I’d love to turn it into a film that I could direct and if the book takes off I will try to do just that. But as a novel, I’m already working on my next YA story, and this one is the exact opposite of Last Stop.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in Last Stop This town?

Nope. I love writing for film, but when I turn in a screenplay, it goes to a million other people, including the director and the actors. The end product is truly a collaboration, and while that can be great, it’s not the same pride of authorship as a book where every word is my own.

What were your thoughts on the outcome of the movie Slackers? Did it turn out exactly as you visioned it? How close did the actors come to your characters?

I’ve come to love Slackers. It was my first film and it was a big shock to see people change things. The director was a bit of a lunatic and the movie was different from the script. But as I wrote other movies and got some distance, I started to realize that the core script is still in there and it’s okay to have someone else’s vision interpret your script.

What's your favorite fruit?

Honeycrisp apple. Don’t try to give me a Gala and tell me it’s the same.

If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I think having dinner with a dead person would be totally disgusting and violate the health code. But it does sound like a good idea for a fraternity initiation.

Thank you so much, David!

Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard

Wanderlove is about a 18 year old artist named Bria Sandoval, who decides to take a journey to Central America. Her journey isn't just physical, its emotional as well.

Wanderlove has made it to my top favorite reads of all time. This is such a beautiful book. The writing was superb, and flowed extremely well. There are beautiful drawings through out the entire book and I am so glad that they are there. The drawings helped paint the picture of Wanderlove.  The characters were extremely well written, and the story was authentic.

Kirsten Hubbard is a talented writer and artist. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I received an e-galley via Netgalley and Random House Children's Books in exchange for an honest review.  The e-galley isn't enough, I must have either a hard or paper back to add to my library!!

Blurb via GoodReads

"It all begins with a stupid question:

Are you a Global Vagabond?

No, but 18-year-old Bria Sandoval wants to be. In a quest for independence, her neglected art, and no-strings-attached hookups, she signs up for a guided tour of Central America—the wrong one. Middle-aged tourists with fanny packs are hardly the key to self-rediscovery. When Bria meets Rowan, devoted backpacker and dive instructor, and his outspokenly humanitarian sister Starling, she seizes the chance to ditch her group and join them off the beaten path.

Bria's a good girl trying to go bad. Rowan's a bad boy trying to stay good. As they travel across a panorama of Mayan villages, remote Belizean islands, and hostels plagued with jungle beasties, they discover what they've got in common: both seek to leave behind the old versions of themselves. And the secret to escaping the past, Rowan’s found, is to keep moving forward.

But Bria comes to realize she can't run forever, no matter what Rowan says. If she ever wants the courage to fall for someone worthwhile, she has to start looking back.

Kirsten Hubbard lends her artistry to this ultimate backpacker novel, weaving her drawings into the text. Her career as a travel writer and her experiences as a real-life vagabond backpacking Central America are deeply seeded in this inspiring story."

Last Stop This Town by David H. Steinberg

Earlier this week I was contacted by the awesome David H. Steinberg to review his book Last Stop This Town.  Who is David H. Steinberg? Well, he just so happens to be the awesome writer of  American Pie 2, Slackers, and Puss In Boots (and this is just naming a few)

I'll admit that I have an unusual sense of humor, and Slackers is one of my favorite movies..(remember Cool Ethan and his Angela hair doll)

Ok, now on the the review....

Last Stop This Town is about the last weekend before High School Graduation for 4 seniors -Dylan, Noah, Pike, and Walker. Growing up in a boring suburb town in Connecticut, they decide to make their last weekend eventful and memorable by going to a rave in NYC. Little did they know what was in store on the journey to get to the rave.

Last Stop This Town took me right back to high school, I loved going to raves and had a few interesting weekends myself.   I really enjoyed this coming of age book, it was well written and the characters were very interesting. This was a quick read that kept my interest through out the entire book. The adventures that these four guys had were humorous and entertaining.  Last Stop This Town does contain strong language, drinking, drugs, and sexual situations which makes it  more for the mature young adult crowd, specifically male. However, female YA and adults will love it too.

5 out of 5 stars

I was honored to receive a e-book copy of Last Stop This Town via David H. Steinberg in exchange for an honest review.

Here is the blurb via Goodreads

"The debut novel from "American Pie" series screenwriter David H. Steinberg. It's the last weekend before high school graduation, and as they prepare to go their separate ways, four life-long friends spend a wild and raucous night in New York City that forces them to face their fear of growing up... and growing apart.

West Hartford, Connecticut. Growing up in the suburbs is a mind-numbingly boring experience for most teenagers, and high school seniors Dylan, Noah, Pike, and Walker are no exception. They spend their days testing how fast they can drive on the local residential streets, bribing homeless dudes to buy them beer, and attending crappy house parties. So when Dylan proposes that they spend their last weekend of high school in New York City attending an underground rave, the guys are ready to make some serious memories.

In New York, though, the guys have run-ins with a drug dealer with a penchant for fire extinguishers, a Chinese restaurant owner with a score to settle, an Albanian street gang, con men, hookers, performance artists, and a gaggle of hot, degenerate, rich girls. Over the course of one incredible night, their outrageous journey gives the guys a bonding experience they'll never forget, as they learn that part of growing up means they're going to have to face their futures on their own.

(Parental advisory: Contains strong language, drinking, drugs, and sexual situations, all involving teens.)"

Falling In Between by Devon Ashley

Falling In Between by Devon Ashley is about a teenager named Jenna, who after an unfortunate swimming accident, begins to have very interesting dreams...

OK, first I'd like to thank Devon Ashley for giving me the opportunity to review Falling In Between in exchange for an honest review. I'm extremely glad she did because I absolutely loved it. I definitely have to point out that Falling In Between is for the mature YA or Adult crowd, there are a few extremely STEAMY scenes. Those scenes and the entire book were very well written. The beginning might start a bit slow for other readers but I seriously want to urge anyone who reads Falling In Between to NOT GIVE UP, continue reading! Thanks to Dam Good Publishing, I had the pleasure to be offered to do a mini-review and host a giveaway for 1 e-book copy. What's a mini-review? A mini-review (in this case) was I have only read the first chapter and base my review off of that. I have to say first off, that I am SO glad I have more than one chapter to read. I was hooked from the start. Being that I am a blogger, reading a book about a blogger has certainly peaked my interest. It's quite unusual to attempt to post a mini-review on only one chapter, so I'm going to make it short and simple. I liked the first chapter and I want more. Rob Andrew's writing style flowed for me and I know WiSpY will be a very interesting read.

Silver Moon by Rebecca A. Rogers

Silver Moon by Rebecca A. Rogers is about Candra, a seventeen year old senior who gets shipped off to live with her aunt and uncle because of her "bad behavior"  Little does she know that she was sent to learn more about what she is about to become...a werewolf.

Silver Moon is a very enjoyable read that held my interest throughout the entire book. I enjoyed the well written characters, loved reading the start of a "forbidden" romance, and the mysterious plot. I rate Silver Moon 4.5 stars, the missing .5 is that the book didn't end well for me. My biggest pet peeve with books is books that don't really have an ending. Silver Moon kind of leaves you hanging. However, I will definitely be reading the sequel, I can't wait to see what else is in store for Candra.

I enjoyed Rebecca's writing style and can't wait to read more!

I received a e-book copy from Rebecca A. Rogers, in exchange for an honest review, Thank you very much Rebecca!

The Forever Girl by Rebecca Hamilton

The Forever Girl by Rebecca Hamilton is about a small town girl named Sophia, who is an outcast in her town because she is Wiccan.  Having a stressful life and hearing constant noise/static in her head she decides to cast a spell to attempt to relieve the noise, which only opens a whole new world for her.

The Forever Girl is a extremely great read, filled will urban fantasy and paranormal romance.  The characters were well written and interesting. The entire book held my interest and I enjoyed Rebecca's writing style. The story was fresh, original, and exciting.  I love that the romance wasn't instant "love at first sight" and that it took some time to develop. However, the ONLY thing I wasn't sure about in the book was the time lapses, there was a few.."a few weeks or months later" I understand that we don't need to know every single detail of what went on during those months, but it still left me feeling like we might have missed something.

Overall, I highly recommend The Forever Girl, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait to read more from Rebecca Hamilton.
